Farial Khan

1. Can you tell us what makes you a good fit for this profession with the competition being so tough?
1. Well I’m suitable for this profession because first of all I’m in the age where I know mostly about the trends and styles of today. I’m updated well accordingly to other business women who’d have to try to keep themselves updated with their busy schedules. Secondly the quality I provide the brands I use which are rarely given by any parlors or setups over here.
2. Why did you choose this profession? What got you started?
2. I always had it in me. These art skills and I liked doing makeovers for myself trying new techniques etc. Took a few online courses.
My friends are the main reason I started as they pushed me into using my skills and getting some benefit out of it as well as fulfilling my hobby.
3. What are the biggest challenges makeup artists have to face?
3. Biggest challenges are hiring of workers. You always want that expert who can do as You do but you always have to settle for a less experienced one and then get them trained. And after you’ve done that then ways to keeping them happy with their work. Other challenges can be of fussy and bossy clients. Those who have their own perception of makeovers and it gets hard for you to make them understand.
4. If a customer asks for a style that you are sure would not suit them, how do you convince the customer to go otherwise?
4. Well we try to explain why the hairdo would not suit them. And what substitutes we have for them. And why the substitutes would be better and it always turns out perfect:)
5. How do you prepare dry and oily skin for foundation makeup application?
5. There are techniques on how to adjust foundation on different types of skin. Also we do keep foundations for every skin type with primers and all that are necessary products to give them the desired look.
6. Tell me about your experience as a makeup artist?
6. I experience many different things and situations almost on a daily basis. There are good experiences and then there are bad experiences but we know how to handle any kind ? so far I’m loving it and there hasn’t been any that had demotivated me.
7. How often do you clean your makeup tools such as brushes and combs? How does it affect the wear and tear of your tools and how do you feel about the associated expense?
7. Well hygiene for me is a big issue. I myself have a nerve of OCD so I try to keep everything neat and clean. Along with me my workers are also hygiene aware which is like a blessing. We sterilize all mani pedi tools. Use new filers new sponges and almost anything which we can. On the other side the tools that aren’t easy to replace. We sterilize them. Brushes i have 3 to 4 sets. All branded. Different foundation brushes. New sponge for every client. And brushes are cleaned and washed after every makeover session and replaced after few months. We try our best to keep it clean.

8. How do you determine a client’s undertone before you decide what makeup technique to use?
8. Umm i read about a lot of different things relating to my work. The types of looks that would suit a specific eye type, face type, skin tone. By getting all that info in mind and yes with a few years of experience now i can tel just by looking at the clients face.
9. What experiences do you have apart from  using typical makeup techniques?
9. In the field of makeup. I have every type of experience. I can do comic makeups too. Im a hairstylist. I can Cut hair dye hair play with hair almost anything in this field. All it requires is for me to see a pic and i can get it done.

10. Any advice for beginners?
10. My advice would be to practice practice practice as much as you can. Learn more. Its just never enough. And yes keep urself motivated. Never lose hope. Don’t ever consider yourself back. Don’t take it as a competition. Never get the feeling of competition. Just do what u love and its always going to satisfy and make u happy ?
